Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Speech and Language)
Hours: 08:30 to 15:30

 

We are seeking a Teaching Assistant to support non-verbal or minimally verbal children in communication in Littlehampton. The successful candidate will have expertise in alternative communication methods and familiarity with visual aids and communication devices. You will also understand the various developmental challenges that come with delayed speech and language, including issues related to confidence and peer relationships.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support non-verbal or minimally verbal children in their communication development.
  • Implement alternative communication strategies tailored to individual needs.
  • Use visual aids and communication devices to facilitate learning.
  • Encourage social interaction and engagement among students.
  • Collaborate with teachers to monitor and report on student progress.
  • Create a positive learning environment that supports communication skills.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs.
  • Familiarity with alternative communication methods and visual aids.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to the needs of the pupils.
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies.
  • Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling, or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably.
