Teaching Assistant (SEN – ASC Support)

Location: Chichester
Job Title: Teaching Assistant (SEN – ASC Support)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:30 (Term Time Only)

A primary school in Chichester is inviting applications for a teaching assistant to work one-to-one with a pupil who has Autism Spectrum Condition. You will provide dedicated support to help the child navigate social and communication challenges and to access the curriculum effectively. Candidates must have clear, demonstrable SEN experience and a deep understanding of the difficulties that children with autism face in their learning journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 support using tailored intervention strategies for a pupil with ASC
  • Adapt classroom activities to suit the pupil’s individual learning needs
  • Assist in the implementation of personalised support plans
  • Monitor progress and record pupil outcomes for review
  • Work closely with teachers and SEN staff to ensure a structured learning environment
  • Adhere strictly to the school’s safeguarding and behavioural policies

Essential Experience/Attributes

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
  • Experience working with Autism Spectrum Condition and related challenges
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
  • A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations and respond to the needs of the pupils
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
  • Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
