Part-Time Teaching Assistant

Hours: Part-time, including midday supervision

We are seeking a compassionate and patient Teaching Assistant to join our team part-time, supporting children with various special educational needs (SEN) during the school day. This role involves providing essential assistance to children with additional needs in the classroom, supporting their midday meals, and encouraging positive social interactions. The ideal candidate will be comfortable adapting to different needs, have a strong understanding of SEN, and be proactive in creating an inclusive and nurturing environment. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys making a meaningful impact in a flexible role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to children with diverse SEN, fostering an encouraging and structured learning environment.
  • Assist with lunchtime routines, supporting children as needed to ensure a safe and positive mealtime experience.
  • Help children engage with the curriculum, breaking down tasks and providing clear instructions to promote independence and confidence.
  • Work closely with the classroom teacher to implement support strategies tailored to each child’s needs.
  • Monitor children’s well-being and social interactions during breaks, encouraging social development and positive behaviour.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where all children feel valued and supported.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs, ideally in a primary or early years setting.
  • Familiarity with various SEN, including autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Ability to provide support during midday meals and supervise children with care and sensitivity.
  • Clear communication skills and a nurturing approach to building rapport with pupils.
  • Ability to work within a team, using initiative and creativity to adapt activities as needed.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • Patient, empathetic, and understanding, with a strong focus on inclusive practices.
