Teaching Assistant (Phonics Specialist)

Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Phonics Specialist)
Hours: 08:30 to 15:30

 

We are seeking a Teaching Assistant to support Key Stage 1 (KS1) students in developing essential literacy skills through effective phonics instruction in Littlehampton. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality phonics instruction and provide targeted interventions for struggling readers. You will create engaging resources, conduct assessments, and implement multisensory approaches to learning, inspiring a love for reading and literacy in young learners.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver systematic phonics instruction to support literacy development.
  • Provide targeted interventions for students struggling with reading.
  • Assess individual student needs and tailor interventions accordingly.
  • Design engaging phonics activities and develop age-appropriate resources.
  • Foster a positive learning environment that encourages enthusiasm for reading.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs.
  • Background in using phonics programs such as Letters and Sounds, Read Write Inc., or Jolly Phonics.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to the needs of the pupils.
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies.
  • Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling, or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably.
