Job Title: Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support – Physical Needs)
Hours: 08:45 to 14:30 (Term Time Only)

A primary school in the Shoreham area is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with physical needs. This role will focus on helping the pupil access both their education and the wider school environment, ensuring they can fully participate in daily activities and learning. You will play an essential role in facilitating their independence, adapting learning tasks where necessary, and providing practical support throughout the school day.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in Key Stage 1 or the Early Years, with a strong understanding of how to support young children in their educational and personal development. You will need to demonstrate patience, reliability, and a nurturing approach, ensuring that the pupil feels supported and engaged. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with physical needs, assisting them in accessing the curriculum
  • Adapt activities to ensure the child can fully engage with their learning
  • Help the pupil navigate the school environment safely and confidently
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external specialists to implement support strategies
  • Encourage independence while providing necessary assistance with mobility and participation in school routines
  • Follow the school’s safeguarding and behavioural policies at all times

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working in Key Stage 1 or the Early Years
  • Experience supporting children with physical needs in an educational setting
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
  • A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations and respond to the needs of the pupil
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
  • Qualifications relating to education, SEN, counselling, or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
