Teaching Assistant (Reception)

Location: Chichester
Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Reception Support)
Hours: 08:30 to 15:15 (Term Time Only, Full-Time until the end of the Academic Year)

A primary school in Chichester is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support pupils in the Early Years Foundation Stage. This is a full-time, term time only role running from 08:30 to 15:15 until the end of the academic year. You will work with young children who require extra help to access their learning, ensuring that every pupil receives the structured support they need to build a strong foundation in their early education.

Working in the early years is an active and rewarding experience. In this role, you will provide both one-to-one and group support to help children overcome barriers to learning. You must have a solid understanding of special educational needs, particularly those affecting young children such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), as well as additional challenges that may impact their speech, language, and behaviour.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support and assist in small groups to help children access learning
  • Assist in the delivery of the EYFS curriculum and related learning activities
  • Support the social, emotional, and cognitive development of pupils
  • Help plan and implement engaging, hands-on learning experiences
  • Maintain a safe and structured learning environment both indoors and outdoors
  • Follow the school’s safeguarding and behavioural policies at all times

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
  • Experience working with young children in an educational setting or similar environment
  • Experience supporting children with additional needs, particularly those with ASC and associated learning challenges
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
  • A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations and respond to the needs of the pupils
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies; qualifications relating to education, SEN, counselling or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
