Hours: 08:30 to 15:30 (Term Time Only)

A primary school in Littlehampton is seeking a Teaching Assistant to join the SEN team on a temporary basis until the summer holidays. This role involves working one-to-one and in small groups with pupils who require extra help to access their learning. You will work with children with additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, as well as those facing behavioural, social, and communication difficulties. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to a supportive learning environment by helping pupils overcome the challenges they encounter in school.

The successful candidate must have clear, demonstrable SEN experience and a thorough understanding of the issues that affect children with additional needs. You will be expected to follow individual learning plans, contribute to pupils’ progress both in and out of the classroom, and work closely with the wider team. Reliability, a calm approach, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with additional needs
• Implement individualised learning plans and interventions as directed by teachers
• Assist with classroom activities and support pupils both indoors and outdoors
• Help pupils manage their behaviour and access the curriculum effectively
• Monitor and record pupil progress, offering feedback to the teaching team
• Follow the school’s safeguarding and behavioural policies at all times

Essential Experience/Attributes:

• Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
• Experience working with Autism Spectrum Condition, ADHD, and related challenges
• A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
• A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
• The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to pupils’ needs
• Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
• Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling, or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
