Teaching Assistant (SEN Support)
Location: Chichester
Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Hours: Five mornings and two afternoons a week (approximately 20.33 hours per week, Term Time Only)

A primary school in Chichester is seeking a Teaching Assistant with clear and demonstrable SEN experience to support pupils with additional needs and high needs SEN. In this role you will work 1:1 and in small groups with children who require extra support to access learning and develop their skills. You will need to have a thorough understanding of the challenges faced by pupils with conditions such as autism, ADHD, and associated behavioural difficulties. The successful candidate will be someone who has worked effectively with children in an educational or care setting and can show examples of supporting children with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with additional needs, ensuring they can access and engage with learning
  • Collaborate with class teachers to implement personalised learning strategies and support plans
  • Adapt learning activities to address the specific needs of children with high needs SEN
  • Assist in monitoring and recording pupil progress, offering feedback to the teaching team
  • Uphold the school’s safeguarding and behavioural policies at all times

Essential Experience/Attributes

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
  • Experience working with additional needs including high needs SEN such as autism, ADHD, and challenging behaviour
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
  • A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations and respond to the needs of the pupils
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
  • Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
