Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Hours: Full-time (Term Time Only)

A thriving community school in Littlehampton is seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional needs. This school is dedicated to working closely with its pupils and parents, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive both academically and socially. This role will involve providing 1:1 and small group support to children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and challenging behaviour. The successful candidate will be a compassionate and patient individual with a clear understanding of the unique challenges these children face and the strategies needed to support them effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with ASC, ADHD, and challenging behaviour
• Work alongside teachers and the SENCo to create a structured and supportive learning environment
• Implement strategies to support emotional regulation and social development
• Assist children with transitions, sensory needs, and tailored interventions to promote engagement in learning
• Foster positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents to create a strong support network
• Follow the school’s safeguarding and behavioural policies, ensuring the safety and well-being of all pupils

Essential Experience/Attributes

• Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
• Experience working with ASC, ADHD, and challenging behaviour
• A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
• A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
• The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to the needs of the pupils
• Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
• Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
