Hours: Full-time (Term Time Only)

A small, welcoming primary school in Worthing is seeking a Teaching Assistant to work with children with additional needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups. This is a challenging but rewarding role that requires patience, adaptability, and a deep understanding of special educational needs (SEN), particularly Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and ADHD.

The ideal candidate will be flexible and able to support pupils across different year groups as needed, working under the guidance of teachers and the wider school team. You will play a crucial role in helping children overcome barriers to learning, develop social skills, and engage positively in their education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to children with additional needs, ensuring they can access and engage with learning
  • Work in small groups to help pupils build confidence, social skills, and understanding of key concepts
  • Support children with ASC, ADHD, and other SEN, recognising the unique challenges they face both academically and socially
  • Adapt learning materials and strategies to meet individual needs
  • Work flexibly across different year groups, responding to the needs of the school
  • Collaborate with teachers and SEN staff to implement strategies that support pupils’ progress
  • Maintain a calm, structured environment that encourages positive learning behaviours

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Demonstrable experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASC and ADHD
  • Understanding of the educational and social challenges that children with additional needs face
  • Ability to adapt to different year groups and work flexibly within a small school setting
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A DBS check on the update service or willingness to obtain one
  • Patient, resilient, and committed to making a difference
