1:1 Teaching Assistant (Lower Key Stage Two)

Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant
Hours: Five mornings a week and two afternoons a week (Term Time Only)

A primary school in Chichester is looking for a committed 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work in Lower Key Stage Two. You will provide focused support to a pupil with trauma, ASD, and ADHD, helping them navigate the school environment and engage positively with their learning. Understanding the needs of children who have experienced trauma and have mental health challenges is essential. Familiarity with EHCPs is advantageous, as you’ll collaborate with teachers, the SENCo, and possibly external professionals to ensure the pupil’s individual targets are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer 1:1 support to a pupil with trauma, ASD, and ADHD, primarily across five mornings and two afternoons each week
  • Adapt learning tasks to the pupil’s needs, using strategies that aid emotional regulation and concentration
  • Liaise with teaching staff, SENCo, and other support professionals to implement and review the pupil’s targets, including those detailed in an EHCP
  • Foster a calm, inclusive atmosphere that builds confidence and promotes independence
  • Monitor the pupil’s progress, providing feedback to inform ongoing strategies and interventions

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Experience supporting children with ASD, ADHD, and/or trauma-related needs
  • A clear understanding of how mental health challenges can affect a child’s learning and behaviour
  • Empathy, patience, and strong communication skills to build trust and provide consistent support
  • Familiarity with EHCP processes is advantageous
  • A DBS check on the update service or willingness to obtain one
