Location: Chichester

Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

Hours: 8:30-3:30, Monday – Friday, Term Time Only

Are you looking to make a positive difference in a rewarding educational environment? We are seeking an experienced SEN TA to join a supportive school community where you will work closely with students requiring tailored educational support. This role is ideal for a dedicated professional who can adapt lessons to various abilities, provide structure, and manage behaviour effectively. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on a 1:1 basis, in small groups, and across the classroom, fostering a constructive atmosphere for all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Modify and adapt lesson plans to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students.
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies, using visual aids and routine to support students’ engagement.
  • Provide personalised support in 1:1 settings, small groups, and across the classroom as required.
  • Facilitate speech and language development through specific exercises and engaging learning materials.
  • Communicate with staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support and wellbeing.
  • Uphold and follow school policies on safeguarding and behaviour management.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs.
  • Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), and speech and language delays.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to the needs of the pupils.
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies.
  • Qualifications in education, special educational needs, counselling or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably.
