Job Title: English Teacher (Secondary)  
Location: SEMH, SEND School (ages 11-18)  
Contract: Temporary to Permanent  
Start Date: As soon as possible  
Salary: £29,344 – £42,000 per annum
We are looking for a dedicated and passionate English Teacher to join our supportive team, teaching secondary students aged 11 to 18 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and other Special Educational Needs (SEN). This role is ideal for an individual who can inspire and engage young people, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve academic success.

About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and caring Secondary English Teacher to join our team, supporting students aged 7-16 with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). Experience with SEMH is a plus, but not required.

In this role, you’ll deliver high-quality lessons, follow school policies, and help students build confidence and achieve academic progress. If you’re passionate about making a difference, we want to hear from you!

 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Teaching English: Plan and deliver creative, engaging, and differentiated English lessons that meet the diverse needs of students, promoting their love for literature and language.
  • Tailored Support: Work closely with each student to understand their learning style, adapting lessons to meet their individual needs and ensuring they can access the curriculum effectively.
  • Classroom Management: Foster a positive learning environment, using behaviour management strategies to support students with SEMH needs in managing their emotions and behaviours during lessons.
  • Monitoring Progress: Track and assess students’ progress, providing constructive feedback to help them develop both academically and personally.
  • Collaborative Working: Liaise with colleagues, including teaching assistants, SEN specialists, and pastoral staff, to ensure a holistic approach to supporting each student’s development.
  • Encouraging Engagement: Inspire and motivate students to participate in class discussions, express their ideas, and improve their literacy skills while fostering their self-confidence.

  
Candidate Qualities:

  • Passionate Educator: A love for teaching English and a commitment to helping students develop a deeper understanding of literature and language.
  • Experience in SEN/SEMH Settings: Preferably, candidates will have experience working in a SEN or SEMH environment, supporting students with emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Patience and Empathy: Ability to build strong relationships with students, offering patience and understanding, particularly when faced with challenging behaviour.
  • Adaptability: A flexible approach to teaching, with the ability to adapt lesson plans and teaching strategies to meet the needs of students with varying levels of ability and emotional needs
  • Team Player: Strong collaboration skills, working effectively with other staff members to create a consistent and supportive learning environment.
