“What is a SEN Admin role?”

A SEND Admin role refers to a position that provides administrative support specifically for the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) department within a school or academy. It is a critical role, as it ensures the smooth operation of processes that support pupils with SEND. Here’s an overview of what the role typically involves:

Responsibilities of a SEND Administrator

    • Managing the paperwork and systems for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), including annual reviews, amendments, and applications.
    • Ensuring compliance with statutory SEND timelines and procedures.
  2. Data Management:

    • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date SEND registers and databases.
    • Tracking pupil progress and recording interventions or support plans.
  3. Communication:

    • Acting as the first point of contact for parents, carers, and external professionals (e.g., local authorities, speech therapists, educational psychologists).
    • Coordinating meetings, such as EHCP reviews, with families and multi-agency professionals.
  4. Administrative Tasks:

    • Preparing reports, letters, and correspondence related to SEND provision.
    • Organising and filing confidential documents securely.
    • Assisting in budgeting and financial tracking for SEND funding or resources.
  5. Liaison:

    • Working closely with the school’s SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to support the delivery of SEND strategies.
    • Collaborating with teaching staff and support workers to ensure smooth delivery of interventions.
  6. Compliance and Reporting:

    • Ensuring the school meets SEND statutory obligations under the SEND Code of Practice (2015).
    • Preparing documentation for Ofsted inspections or other regulatory bodies.
  7.

Desirable Skills for a SEND Administrator

  1. Organisation and Attention to Detail:

    • Ability to handle large volumes of paperwork and meet deadlines.
  2. Knowledge of SEND Legislation:

    • Familiarity with the SEND Code of Practice, EHCP processes, and related policies.
  3. Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

    • Professional and empathetic communication with families, staff, and external agencies.
  4. IT Proficiency:
