SENDCo Assistant

Location: Brighton
Job Title: SENDCo Assistant
Hours: Full-time, starting December (until the end of the Spring term)
Salary: Scale 6 (negotiable based on experience)

We are seeking an experienced and proactive SENDCo Assistant, or an experienced SEN practitioner to join a local school on an interim basis from December until the end of the Spring term. This role will involve supporting the school’s SEND provision, focusing on key aspects of the role to ensure the continued success of their SEND support services. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with children with a range of SEND needs, including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH), and possess a resilient, solution-focused, and flexible approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate soft starts for children with SEND, providing a calm and supportive start to the school day.
  • Lead the SEND lunchtime club, creating a positive and inclusive environment for pupils with additional needs.
  • Provide support for regulation of high SEND needs children, including break cover and intervention work as required.
  • Collaborate with the interim SENDCo to support paperwork-related tasks, if the candidate’s experience and knowledge allow.
  • Work proactively to address the needs of SEND children, offering tailored solutions to challenges as they arise.
  • Promote a nurturing, inclusive school environment that supports the well-being and development of all pupils.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Significant experience working with children with a range of SEND needs, including SEMH.
  • Strong understanding of SEND strategies and interventions to support emotional regulation and behaviour management.
  • Resilient, proactive, and solution-focused approach to challenges.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the needs of the children and the school environment.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with the SENDCo and other staff members.
  • Knowledge of SEND paperwork processes is desirable but not essential.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
