SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 Reception ASC Support)

Location: Chichester
Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 Reception ASC Support)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:30 (Term Time Only)

A primary school in Chichester is looking for a teaching assistant to work one-to-one in Reception with a pupil who has Autism Spectrum Condition. In this role you will provide dedicated, individual support to help the pupil access learning and participate fully in school life. The successful candidate will have clear, demonstrable experience working with children with special educational needs, with particular focus on ASC. An understanding of the unique challenges faced by young children with additional needs is vital, and you will be expected to implement targeted strategies that foster a secure and structured learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent one-to-one support to a Reception pupil with ASC, tailoring learning activities to the child’s individual needs
  • Work alongside teachers and support staff to implement personalised learning and behavioural support plans
  • Assist in creating a structured environment that helps the pupil develop emotionally and academically
  • Monitor and record the pupil’s progress, sharing observations with the teaching team
  • Ensure adherence to the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies

Essential Experience/Attributes

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
  • Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Condition
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
  • A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations and respond to the needs of the pupil
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
  • Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
