We are seeking a passionate and proactive SEMH Teacher to join our dynamic team in a specialist school for children aged 6-16 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The ideal candidate will be able to hit the ground running, supporting students who have been through trauma and helping them thrive in a safe, nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to meet the individual needs of students with SEMH and SEND, across a range of subjects and age groups.
  • Provide both group and one-on-one support, helping students develop essential academic, social, and emotional skills.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes emotional wellbeing, resilience, and academic success.
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours effectively, using appropriate school strategies to maintain a safe learning space.
  • Collaborate with support staff, parents, and external agencies to create personalised learning plans and interventions.
  • Actively contribute to students’ social and emotional development, helping them overcome barriers to learning and heal from past trauma.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, communicating regularly with staff, students, and families to ensure holistic support.
  • Uphold and adhere to safeguarding policies, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience teaching or supporting children with SEMH, SEND, and trauma backgrounds.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to the needs of a specialist SEMH environment and implement strategies for managing challenging behaviour.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a collaborative approach to working with students, staff, and external professionals.
  • A compassionate, patient, and resilient mindset, with a genuine commitment to helping vulnerable young people succeed.
  • Flexibility and creativity in lesson planning to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development, with an openness to learning and implementing new approaches to support SEMH students.
