A Chichester-based school is seeking a skilled and proactive School Business Manager to oversee the financial, administrative, and operational aspects of their educational environment. As the School Business Manager, you will work closely with the Headteacher and the senior leadership team to ensure that the school runs smoothly, efficiently, and in full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

You will be responsible for managing budgets, payroll, procurement, and resources, as well as contributing to the strategic planning process. This role offers an exciting opportunity to play a vital part in the school’s growth and success, ensuring that the teaching and support teams have the resources they need to deliver the best possible educational experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the school’s budgets, financial planning, and reporting, ensuring responsible allocation of resources and compliance with all financial regulations.
  • Manage procurement processes, including evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring best value for money.
  • Administer payroll and HR functions in liaison with the Headteacher and external providers, maintaining accurate records and ensuring timely, compliant processes.
  • Oversee premises management and maintenance, working with relevant staff and contractors to maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, child protection policies, and other statutory requirements.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, advising on financial and operational matters to support informed decision-making.
  • Lead and manage support staff, fostering a productive and professional working culture.
  • Establish strong relationships with stakeholders, including staff, governors, external agencies, and the wider school community.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Proven experience in financial and business management, ideally within a school or educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, financial controls, and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure.
  • Experience managing staff, contractors, and suppliers effectively.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in financial management systems and general office software.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • Qualifications in school business management, accountancy, or related fields are highly desirable.
