Job Title: Primary SEND Teaching Assistant 

Location: Haywards Heath

Salary: Minimum £76 per day (Increasing in April)

Contract: Monday – Friday 8.30-3.30 – Temp to perm (Term Time Only)

About Us: Our schools are dedicated to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for our primary school students with SEND. We believe in fostering a love for learning and supporting each child’s individual needs to help them reach their full potential. As we continue to prioritise the well-being and academic growth of our students, we are seeking a passionate and dedicated Primary SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to primary school students with SEND, both individually and in small groups, to ensure they can access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
  • Collaborate closely with primary school teachers to implement differentiated instruction and adapt teaching materials to meet the diverse needs of students with SEND.
  • Support students in developing key literacy, numeracy, and social skills, fostering their confidence and independence in the classroom.
  • Work alongside the SENCO and other staff members to develop and implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and support strategies for students with SEND.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, promoting their emotional well-being, self-esteem, and sense of belonging within the school community.
  • Monitor student progress and behaviour, providing feedback to teachers and participating in the evaluation and review of support interventions.
  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment, proactively managing challenging behaviours and promoting positive behaviour management strategies.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with primary school students with SEND, preferably in an educational setting. (desirable)
  • A genuine passion for supporting the learning and development of young children with diverse needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience, with a compassionate and nurturing approach to supporting primary school students with SEND.
  • Knowledge of SEND-related issues and strategies for supporting primary school students with a range of needs (e.g., autism, dyslexia, speech and language difficulties).
  • Relevant qualifications or training in supporting students with SEND in a primary school setting (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, SEND-specific training).
