Location: Horsham
Job Title: Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM (Term Time Only)

A welcoming primary school in Horsham is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with Autism. This part-time role is ideal for someone who is patient, proactive, and keen to make a meaningful difference in a child’s school experience. You will work within the classroom, adapting learning to suit the pupil’s needs, while also supporting with sensory breaks and 1:1 activities outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support for a child with ASD in the classroom.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the child’s needs and encourage engagement.
  • Support the pupil’s social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Facilitate sensory breaks and 1:1 sessions to help regulate emotions and improve focus.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual strategies.
  • Follow school safeguarding and behaviour policies at all times.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs.
  • Experience supporting children with ASD, including managing sensory needs.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting children’s development.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • The ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations.
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies.
  • Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling, or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably.
