Learning Support Assistant – SEN – Primary School Setting

Location: Haywards Heath
Job Title: Teaching Assistant/ Learning Support
Hours: 8:30 – 3:30, Monday – Friday, Term Time Only

This role requires a proactive individual who enjoys working with children in the classroom, supporting their learning and development. You will be doing general classroom support in KS1 and KS2 as well as working closely with SEN pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in delivering a broad and engaging primary curriculum.
  • Provide targeted support for pupils with special educational needs.
  • Support children using personalised strategies that encourage independence and motivation.
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviour using positive and consistent strategies.
  • Support with 1:1 Interventions.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Enjoy working with children in both classroom and outdoor settings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Patience, tact, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and hard-working.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with good interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with children within the primary age range.
  • GCSEs, including Maths and English
  • A DBS clearance or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable Experience/Attributes:

  • Experience working with children with different special needs, particularly Cognition and Learning.
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum and how children learn.
  • Ability to deliver interventions such as Narrative Therapy or Speech & Language.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) or evidence of study towards such qualifications.
  • First Aid qualifications.
