Learning Support Assistant (SEN & Behaviour Support)

Location: Littlehampton
Job Title: Learning Support Assistant
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:30 (Term Time Only)

A primary school in Littlehampton is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work with children who have a range of learning difficulties, behavioural needs, and social, communication, sensory, and physical challenges. This role requires a proactive and resilient individual who can provide structured support to pupils who exhibit demanding behavioural needs, ensuring they can access their education in a safe and supportive environment.

You will work closely with teachers and the wider SEN team to implement strategies that encourage positive behaviour, engagement, and personal development. The role will involve both one-to-one and small group work, helping pupils navigate the challenges they face while building their confidence and self-regulation skills. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children who require additional support to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with behavioural, social, and communication difficulties
  • Assist in implementing personalised learning and behaviour support plans
  • Support pupils with sensory and physical needs, ensuring they can fully engage in school activities
  • Help pupils develop positive coping strategies to manage challenging behaviour
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and SEN professionals to create a structured and supportive learning environment
  • Adhere to the school’s safeguarding and behavioural policies at all times

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
  • Experience supporting pupils with behavioural, social, and communication difficulties
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
  • A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to the needs of the pupils
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
  • Qualifications relating to education, SEN, counselling, or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
