Job Title: Mental Health Teaching Assistant – SEND Team

Location: Large Secondary School in Worthing, West Sussex

Hours: Full-Time

Key Stages: 3 & 4

Commencement Date: February 2024

About the Role:

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) team at a large secondary school in Worthing. This full-time position involves working closely with students who have varying degrees of mental health issues throughout Key Stages 3 and 4. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the well-being and academic progress of these students.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with mental health issues, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers and the SEND team to implement individualized strategies for each student.
  • Work one-on-one or in small groups to address specific needs related to mental health and learning.
  • Monitor and record student progress, adjusting support strategies as necessary.
  • Liaise with parents, external agencies, and healthcare professionals to ensure holistic support for students.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children and young people, either in a healthcare or educational setting.
  • Understanding of mental health issues and the ability to implement strategies to support students.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the changing needs of students.
  • Strong communication skills to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant education or training in mental health, psychology, education, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is essential.
