Job Title: HLTA (SEN – ASC Support)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:30 (Term Time Only)

A primary school in Chichester is inviting applications for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support pupils with their learning. In this role, you will provide targeted lesson cover and lead small-group interventions for children with additional needs. Your role is crucial in assisting teachers with the implementation of individualised support plans designed to address the social and communication challenges of pupils with autism. The successful candidate will have either HLTA qualifications or demonstrable SEN experience in a school setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver lesson cover and facilitate small-group sessions for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition
  • Assist in the development and implementation of tailored support strategies
  • Adapt classroom activities to suit the individual needs of pupils with autism
  • Monitor and document pupil progress, providing feedback to the teaching team
  • Work collaboratively with staff to maintain a structured and safe learning environment
  • Ensure compliance with the school’s safeguarding and behavioural policies

Essential Experience/Attributes

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
  • Experience working with Autism Spectrum Condition and additional challenges
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
  • A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations and respond to the needs of the pupils
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
  • Qualifications relating to HLTA status, QTS or SEN are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
