Full-Time Teaching Assistant – Year 3 (SEN & SEMH)

Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant (Year 3)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday

Are you ready to provide vital support to a vulnerable child in KS2? We are looking for a resilient and empathetic Teaching Assistant to work with a Year 3 pupil with significant social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs as well as Special Educational Needs (SEN). The role requires a full-time commitment, with specific focus on one pupil on Mondays and Fridays. This is an excellent opportunity to make a lasting difference to a child who has experienced a difficult background and struggles with trust and building relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support to a Year 3 pupil with SEN and SEMH needs.
  • Focus on building trust and establishing a positive relationship with the pupil.
  • Implement strategies to help manage challenging behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Adapt learning materials and activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement personalised learning and behaviour plans.
  • Support the pupil in developing confidence and positive social interactions with peers.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs and special educational needs (SEN).
  • A strong background in managing challenging behaviour and supporting vulnerable children.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to support a child’s development.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • The ability to remain calm and maintain a positive approach in challenging situations.
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, special educational needs, counselling, or psychology are not essential but highly valued.
