Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 – 3:30, Term Time Only

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join a primary school in Brighton. This full-time role involves supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children who require additional support, particularly in interventions, phonics, and managing challenging behaviour. Experience in a primary school setting or working with SEN in any capacity is highly desirable. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is passionate about making a difference and helping children thrive academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to children with SEN and SEMH needs.
  • Deliver targeted phonics interventions to help improve literacy and language skills.
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviour and supporting emotional regulation within the classroom.
  • Support children in accessing the curriculum and ensuring they can fully participate in lessons.
  • Foster positive relationships with pupils, promoting their social and emotional development.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual learning plans and monitor pupil progress.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN and SEMH needs, either in a school setting or elsewhere.
  • Experience in delivering phonics interventions or other academic support.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting children with varying needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and other staff.
  • The ability to remain calm and adaptable when managing challenging behaviour.
  • An understanding of safeguarding procedures and the ability to follow school policies.
  • Qualifications in education, SEN, or child development are beneficial but not essential.
