Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday

Are you ready to make a significant impact in a mainstream school’s Autism Unit? We are seeking a dedicated individual with experience in autism support and leadership skills to take on this full-time role. The position involves working closely with pupils within an autism-specific setting, ensuring they receive tailored support to help them thrive academically and socially. This role would suit an unqualified teacher with a strong background in supporting children with autism and a proven ability to lead and inspire a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the unit, providing support and guidance to staff and pupils.
  • Develop and implement tailored educational plans for pupils with autism in collaboration with the SENCO and teaching team.
  • Deliver small group and 1:1 support sessions, adapting strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Foster a nurturing and structured environment that promotes engagement and learning.
  • Monitor pupil progress and maintain regular communication with parents and carers.
  • Provide leadership and support to the team, ensuring best practices are followed.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children with autism in an educational setting.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to manage a small team effectively.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting children.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and carers.
  • The ability to remain calm and adapt in challenging situations.
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, SEN, or autism support are not essential but will be looked upon favourably.
