Location: Brighton
Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Hours: 8:30 – 3:30, Monday – Friday, Term Time Only

Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs (SEN) to achieve their full potential? We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Teaching Assistant to join a primary school team. This role is ideal for someone with experience working with children with SEN, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or those displaying challenging behaviour.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted support to children with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, or those with challenging behaviour.
  • Implement personalised strategies to foster independence and motivation in pupils.
  • Assist in managing challenging behaviour, ensuring a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Work closely with teachers to adapt lessons and resources to meet individual learning needs.
  • Use ICT and visual aids to enhance learning and engagement.
  • Deliver interventions such as Narrative Therapy or Speech & Language programmes to support pupil progress.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs, including ASD, ADHD, or challenging behaviour.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • Enjoy working with children in both classroom and outdoor settings.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting children’s development.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • The ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations.
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies in schools.
  • GCSEs, including Maths and English (Grade D or above).

Desirable Experience/Attributes:

  • Experience delivering personalised strategies to support children’s learning and development.
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum and how children learn.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) or evidence of study towards such qualifications.
  • First Aid qualifications.
