Job Title: Behaviour Support Learning Support Assistant (LSA)

Location: Secondary School (ages 11-16)
Contract: Temporary to Permanent, 12 working weeks
Start Date: As soon as possible
Daily Rate: £90


We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Behaviour Support Learning Support Assistant to join our team, working with secondary students aged 11 to 16 years who experience Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, additional challenges, and display complex or challenging behaviour. This role is pivotal in helping students overcome barriers to learning by providing consistent and individualised support.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Behavioural Interventions: Support students to understand and manage their behaviour through tailored strategies, fostering emotional regulation and resilience.
  • In-Class Support: Work alongside teaching staff to ensure students are engaged in lessons and accessing the curriculum despite behavioral challenges.
  • Crisis Management: Respond calmly and effectively to challenging situations, utilizing de-escalation techniques and ensuring the safety of all students and staff.
  • Mentorship: Build trusting relationships with students, acting as a mentor to support their personal, social, and emotional development.
  • Individual Support Plans: Contribute to the development and implementation of Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs), working closely with teachers and pastoral teams.
  • Collaboration: Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including therapists and external agencies, to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Keep accurate records of incidents, interventions, and progress, contributing to reports and reviews to support effective decision-making.
  • Promote Positive Behaviour: Foster an inclusive and respectful school environment where students feel valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Candidate Qualities:

  • Calm and Composed: Able to remain patient and professional in high-pressure situations, responding effectively to challenging behaviour.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Confident in communicating with students, staff, and families to build positive relationships and resolve conflicts.
  • Experience with SEMH and Challenging Behaviour: Ideally, candidates will have prior experience supporting young people with SEMH, SEN, or behaviour needs in a school or care setting.
  • Problem-Solving and Initiative: Proactive and resourceful, capable of implementing effective solutions to behavioural challenges.
  • Team Player: A collaborative mindset, willing to work closely with colleagues to ensure a consistent approach to behaviour management across the school.
  • Commitment to Growth: Willingness to engage in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
