Job Title: Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant

Location: Near Burgess Hill

Salary: £97 daily rate, temp to perm position 

Contract: 08:30 – 16:30 Monday – Friday, Term Time Only

Start date: September

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate teaching assistant to join our team, starting as soon as possible.

The school is situated on 30 acres of beautiful, secluded land, providing the perfect environment for students with autism to learn, grow and thrive. We are a supportive team who work together to provide the best possible education for our students within a challenging yet rewarding role.

The successful candidate will assist teachers in creating and implementing individualised education plans for students and provide support and guidance in all areas of the curriculum. They will also assist in creating a safe and nurturing learning environment, and work closely with other staff members to ensure the best possible outcomes for students.

The candidate is recommended that this role, due to the remote location away from transport, will mean that being a driver is desirable.

Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willing to obtain one (we can help you to obtain one before your start date)
  • Able to adapt to the different needs of each student
  • Confident working with children & young people with Autism
  • C’s or the equivalent at GCSE Level, in Maths and English.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging lessons and providing individualised support to school students across various subjects.
  • Assist in the implementation of differentiated instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, fostering a love for learning and academic success.
  • Manage challenging behaviour and follow behavioural support plans. 
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students, helping them to develop literacy, numeracy, and social skills both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued, respected, and supported.
  • Assist in the preparation and organisation of learning materials, resources, and activities, ensuring they are age-appropriate and accessible to all students.
  •  implementing personalised strategies and accommodations to support each child’s individual needs.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, promoting open communication and collaboration.
 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in a secondary school setting.
  • A genuine passion for working with young learners and supporting them to meet their full potential. 
  • Personal or professional experience supporting young learners who have special needs. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and connect with children in a supportive and nurturing manner.
  • Patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach to working with children of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
