1:1 Teaching Assistant – Year 6

Location: Worthing
Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant (Year 6)
Hours: Part-time/Full-time, Monday to Friday (AM or PM, potentially full-time)

We are looking for an experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide essential support to a Year 6 pupil with complex needs. This role requires a professional with a background in working with children who have experienced high-level trauma and special educational needs (SEN). The position is set to begin in January and offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a pupil’s academic and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support for a Year 6 pupil with high-level trauma and SEND.
  • Help the pupil navigate their learning and emotional challenges with sensitivity and care.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining a consistent and structured environment.
  • Adapt lesson materials to meet the child’s individual needs and promote engagement.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and SENCO to implement personalised strategies and interventions.
  • Support the pupil’s reintegration into group activities when appropriate.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children that have experienced trauma and special educational needs.
  • A strong understanding of strategies to support children with complex emotional and learning needs.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
  • The ability to remain calm in challenging situations and respond to the needs of the pupil.
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies.
  • Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling, or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably.
