1:1 Support Worker for a Highly Autistic Year 6 Student

Location: Brighton outskirts 
Position: 1:1 Support Worker within an educational setting 
Hours: Initially 5 mornings per week, progressing to full-time once the child is settled
Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 Support Worker to provide tailored support to a highly autistic Year 6 student who has not been in education since May 2024. This role is crucial in helping the student reintegrate into the school environment, develop social and academic skills, and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to the student, both academically and emotionally, to help them engage in classroom activities.
  • Create a safe, supportive, and structured learning environment that meets the student’s individual needs.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to develop and implement strategies tailored to the student’s learning style and needs.
  • Monitor the student’s progress, maintaining clear records and reporting any concerns to the relevant team members.
  • Support the student in developing social skills and improving communication.
  • Ensure the student’s well-being, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met throughout the day.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working with children on the autism spectrum, particularly those with complex needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive attitude in supporting the student’s development.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • Experience in creating and implementing individualised strategies and support plans.
  • A calm and understanding approach.
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is highly desirable, but not essential.
