Location: Worthing
Position: 1:1 Individual Needs Assistance for a Reception Student with Autism and Behavioural Needs
Hours: 4 Days per Week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: End of Summer Term

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic SEN Individual Needs Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Reception-aged child with autism and behavioural needs. The successful candidate will work closely with the child in a mainstream primary school setting to ensure their engagement, well-being, and progress in class. This role is set to start as soon as possible and will continue through to the end of the summer term.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support for a Reception child with autism and behavioural needs during class time.
  • Assist in helping the child to engage with their learning and interact positively with peers and staff.
  • Support the child in managing behaviour, using strategies to promote positive behaviour and reduce anxiety.
  • Help create a safe, structured, and inclusive environment for the child to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • Monitor and report on the child’s progress and any concerns or achievements.

Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children with autism or other special educational needs, particularly in an early years setting, is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of child development and the needs of children with behavioural difficulties.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviours calmly and effectively using positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive attitude towards supporting children with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
