Location: Brighton
Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant (High Needs ASC, ADHD, SEMH)
Hours: 08:30 to 15:30 Monday to Friday (It is possible this could be mornings only for five-days a week)

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled SEN Teaching Assistant to join a team that is dedicated to providing the best educational support for children with high needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in adapting and delivering the curriculum to meet the individual needs of pupils with additional needs. You will need to demonstrate a range of successful techniques and strategies you have used in previous roles to support the learning, engagement, and well-being of children with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work 1:1, in small groups and across the class room to support children with high needs, including ASC, ADHD, and SEMH.
  • Adapt and modify the curriculum to suit the individual learning styles and needs of children with additional needs.
  • Implement and use specific strategies and techniques, such as visual aids, structured routines, and positive reinforcement, to engage students and manage behaviour.
  • Support the children in overcoming barriers to learning, including social interaction, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Monitor and record progress, adapting approaches where necessary to ensure effective learning.
  • Collaborate closely with class teachers and the wider SEN team to ensure a holistic approach to the child’s education and well-being.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Proven experience working with children with high needs, particularly those with ASC, ADHD, and SEMH.
  • Demonstrable ability to adapt teaching techniques to cater for children with complex needs, providing evidence of approaches that have been successful.
  • Experience with managing challenging behaviours and using de-escalation techniques.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use a variety of teaching tools and strategies to enhance engagement and learning for children with special educational needs.
  • Ability to support children’s social and emotional development, helping them to build confidence and resilience.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach, with the ability to stay calm and adaptable in challenging situations.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
