Position: Food Technology Teacher for SEMH School (Secondary Aged Students)  
Location: Littlehampton  
Salary: MPS

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Food Technology Teacher to join a dynamic SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school. You will be working with secondary-aged students who have complex needs and may display challenging behaviours. This is a full-time, temporary-to-permanent position, offering an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young lives through the power of culinary education.
 
Key Responsibilities:
– Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Food Technology lessons tailored to the needs of students with SEMH needs.
– Provide 1:1 and small group support to students, helping them develop practical cooking skills while fostering a love for food and nutrition.
– Create a positive, supportive classroom environment that encourages students to express their creativity and gain confidence in the kitchen.
– Work collaboratively with other teachers, support staff, and external agencies to design personalised learning plans that address both academic and emotional needs.
– Manage challenging behaviour using the school’s strategies, maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment.
– Promote the social, emotional, and behavioural development of students through food-related activities, helping them build life skills and emotional resilience.
– Monitor student progress, providing regular feedback to students, parents, and colleagues.
– Ensure all safeguarding measures are strictly followed, addressing any concerns promptly in line with school policies.

– Experience teaching Food Technology or working in a similar role with young people (experience working with SEMH needs is highly desirable).
– A calm, patient, and understanding approach to managing challenging behaviours.
– Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and colleagues.
– A passion for food and teaching, with the ability to engage and inspire young learners.
– A flexible and proactive attitude, with a willingness to adapt lesson plans to meet the varied needs of students.
– A commitment to supporting young people in overcoming barriers to their education and developing essential life skills.
