Job Title: Cleaning Supervisor / Premises Officer
Salary Scale: Grade 5 NJC Pay Scale, Full time
37 hours per week – 2pm till 7pm
JOB PURPOSE
- Assist in the provision of maintenance and security services on the school premises and site, thereby ensuring a safe, efficient and fit for purpose working environment
- Supervise the work of all cleaning staff in order to maintain and deliver a quality service according to set work schedules and procedures
- Support the development of the school by working a shift roster afternoon/evening and weekends, to provide cleaning supervision during the week and to act as an effective on-site contact point for school activities and community lettings.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND TASKS
Cleaning Supervision
- The supervision of all cleaning staff focussing on their performance in terms of standards of cleanliness and their behaviour whilst on duty
- Ensuring that a first class cleaning service is delivered to all areas of the building
- Reviewing work schedules
- Control and issue all cleaning equipment and materials
- Monitoring the quality of all cleaning activities
- Ensuring all cleaning staff are aware of the Health and Safety/COSSH policies and procedures
- Assist with arranging induction and training of new cleaners
- Assist with the maintenance of cleaning equipment, following specialist training
Cleaning and Maintenance duties
Including responding to maintenance support requests
- Undertake general cleaning, dusting of fixtures & fittings & display cabinets, polishing, emptying of litter bins, and sweeping up within various locations
- Use where appropriate the correct powered equipment for vacuuming, shampooing, scrubbing, and polishing of floor areas (training in the use of equipment will be provided)
- Move items of furniture to enable efficient and effective cleaning
- Contribute to the school’s planned preventive maintenance programme and assist with general inspection, specifications and repairs including litter-picking, unblocking sinks and toilets
- Collect and assemble waste for collection
- Undertake activities to maintain a safe and clean school environment e.g. sweeping, gritting, clearing gullies, weeding paths
- Refill and replace consumables e.g. soap, toilet rolls & towels
- To organise and carry out various maintenance duties to ensure that the general upkeep and maintenance of the premises and grounds is satisfactory.
- Attending the site outside of normal working hours in regards to locking/unlocking and any additional cleaning, setting of security alarm systems and carrying out security checks
Organisational Tasks
- Ensure the maintenance of a clean and orderly working environment
- Timely & accurate preparation of routine equipment, resources and materials as set out in instructions
- Undertake basic record keeping, relevant logs and data entry
· Report faulty equipment & other maintenance requirements to appropriate person; contact relevant contractors if required
- Ensure lights and other equipment are switched off as appropriate and in consultation with the relevant school department
- Operate everyday equipment in accordance with instructions
Regulatory (H&S)
- Comply with health and safety policies and procedures at all times, including COSHH and other regulatory requirements
- Promote and ensure the health and safety of pupils, staff & visitors in accordance with appropriate health & safety legislation, at all times
- Report to your line manager any apparent contravention of Health and Safety regulations that could be detrimental to the health, safety and wellbeing of staff, students or visitors
- Participate in emergency evacuation procedures as instructed or required by the school
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
Security
- Lock/unlock school buildings and areas as per standard procedure and hold keys securely and within the school key register system
- Maintain the security of school premises by securing entrances/exits as appropriate and reporting potential security breaches
- Carry out regular security checks and comply with any special security requirements laid down by the Headteacher from time to time
- Operate alarm systems as appropriate
- Ensure attendance as a designated maintenance contact for lettings
- Provide emergency access to the school site at all times during contracted hours
Premises/Site Lettings and School Events
- Assist with the preparation and operation of the school premises for school events, reception of visitors and car parking
- Assistance with operation of the lettings system and feedback on any issues or untaken/extended lets
- Provide a point of contact for the school in relation to community lettings and extended schools activities run by outside clubs
- Provide a range of maintenance services to facilitate school lettings and after school events and activities
- Liaise with the emergency services as required
Pool Controller
· Check hydrotherapy pool chemical levels.
· Check filtration is in correct working order and back-wash when necessary.
· Monitor swimming pool boilers and pumps.
· Indoor hydrotherapy swimming pool is open all year round, even in school holidays, and is checked throughout the year.
Other Duties
- Any other duties as reasonably required from time to time by the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and Maintenance Supervisor, to ensure the smooth and effective running of the school.
