Job Title: Learning Support Assistant (Key Stage 1)
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:30 (Term Time Only)

A primary school in Burgess Hill is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to work across Key Stage 1, providing essential support to pupils within the classroom, in small groups, and on a one-to-one basis. The school is conveniently located just a ten-minute walk from the train station and is easily accessible by public transport. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about helping young learners overcome barriers to education and develop confidence in their abilities.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that all children, particularly those requiring additional support, receive the guidance they need to thrive. Working closely with teachers, you will assist with classroom activities, lead intervention sessions, and provide individualised support both inside and outside the classroom. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils in Key Stage 1 across the classroom, assisting with learning activities
  • Work one-to-one with pupils who require additional help, ensuring they remain engaged in their learning
  • Lead small-group intervention sessions to support children with their academic and social development
  • Assist in adapting lesson materials to meet the needs of individual pupils
  • Work both inside and outside the classroom, creating learning opportunities in different environments
  • Follow the school’s safeguarding and behavioural policies at all times

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs in Key Stage 1
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
  • A patient, nurturing approach with the ability to engage young learners
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to pupils’ needs
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
  • Qualifications relating to education, SEN, counselling, or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
