SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN Department)

Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:30 (Term Time Only)

A primary school in Littlehampton is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their SEN department. This role involves working with children across different year groups who have Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will play an essential role in providing tailored support to pupils, helping them access their education and develop key skills for both learning and social interactions.

As part of the SEN team, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to implement personalised learning plans, assist with behaviour management strategies, and create a structured and supportive environment. The role will require flexibility as you will be supporting children with a range of additional needs across different year groups. Key Responsibilities:

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with ASC and SEMH needs
• Assist in adapting learning activities to suit the individual needs of pupils
• Support pupils in developing emotional regulation and social skills
• Work across different year groups as part of the SEN department
• Implement individualised learning and behavioural support plans in collaboration with teachers and SEN staff
• Follow the school’s safeguarding and behavioural policies at all times

Essential Experience/Attributes:

• Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
• Experience working with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
• A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
• The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to the needs of pupils
• Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
• Qualifications relating to education, SEN, counselling, or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
