Location: Chichester
Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:30 (Term Time Only)

A vibrant and welcoming primary school in Chichester is seeking a Teaching Assistant to join their team, providing invaluable support to both pupils and teachers. This is an exciting opportunity to work with young learners, helping them build confidence, develop key skills, and engage with the curriculum in a way that suits their individual learning styles. No two days will be the same, and you will play a crucial role in shaping a positive and enriching school experience for the children you support.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work both one-to-one and in small groups, ensuring that all pupils, including those with additional needs, receive the attention and guidance they need to thrive. You will be assisting the class teacher in delivering lessons, adapting materials where needed, and providing structured interventions to help children progress academically and socially. The ideal candidate will have a nurturing approach, be able to adapt to different learning needs, and be confident working across different year groups when required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils, assisting with learning activities
  • Work closely with the class teacher to adapt and deliver lessons in a way that supports all learners
  • Help children develop confidence, independence, and a love for learning
  • Assist with classroom management and create a positive learning environment
  • Support children with additional needs, helping them engage with the curriculum
  • Follow the school’s safeguarding and behavioural policies at all times

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children in a school or educational setting
  • Experience supporting pupils with additional needs or different learning styles
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to the needs of pupils
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
  • Qualifications relating to education, SEN, counselling, or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
