Learning Support Assistant – SEMH School (Ages 6-18) – Horsham

Salary: £97 per day (temp to perm for 12 weeks), with a competitive annual salary upon permanent placement
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Location: Horsham (Driving required due to rural location)

This rewarding Learning Support Assistant role is perfect for someone with experience in supporting young people with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, and other additional needs. The school is warm, welcoming, and expanding, looking for confident and friendly staff to join their team.

About the Role:

  • Support pupils with SEMH as their primary need, alongside Autism, ADHD, and other SEND.
  • Help students build self-esteem, confidence, and self-worth, fostering a love for learning.
  • Manage challenging behavior using de-escalation techniques, distraction, and humor.
  • Provide emotional and social support, ensuring a safe and positive school environment.
  • Work as part of a supportive and dedicated team in a school that values staff well-being.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with SEMH and/or mental health challenges (school, care, or similar).
  • Thick-skinned, resilient, and patient – able to handle challenging behavior and verbal outbursts.
  • Understanding of SEND needs and a passion for helping young people thrive.
  • Active and energetic – this role may require you to intervene in high-tension situations.
  • A driver with access to a vehicle (the school is in a rural location).

Once permanent, the school offers an ‘On Call Day’ benefit:

  • You’ll receive one allocated day off per week – while still being paid for a full five-day salary!
  • You’ll be on a rota to cover staff sickness if needed, but otherwise, enjoy a well-deserved break.
  • Required to work all five days only during the first and last week of each term and Ofsted visits.
