Job Title: Learning Support Assistant
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:30 (Term Time Only)

A primary school in Worthing is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join our team in supporting pupils with special educational needs. In this role, you will work directly with children who face challenges related to Autism Spectrum Condition, challenging behaviour, and speech and language delays. You will provide both one-to-one and small group support, helping pupils navigate academic and social challenges while adapting learning activities to meet their individual requirements. Candidates must have clear, demonstrable SEN experience and a strong understanding of the unique challenges these pupils face.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with additional needs, including those with ASC, challenging behaviour, and speech and language difficulties
  • Assist in adapting lesson materials and activities to meet individual learning needs
  • Collaborate with class teachers to implement tailored support plans and interventions
  • Support pupils in managing social interactions and behaviour in the classroom
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, contributing to ongoing reviews of support strategies
  • Uphold the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies

Essential Experience/Attributes

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
  • Experience working with pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition, challenging behaviour, and speech and language difficulties
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
  • A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations and respond to the needs of the pupils
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
  • Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
