Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Hours: Full-time, 08:30 – 15:30 (Term Time Only)

A primary school in Brighton is looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 and small group support for children who need additional help in the classroom. This role will involve working closely with pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and challenging behaviour, ensuring they receive the tailored support they need to access learning successfully. The school is looking for someone who can provide structure, encouragement, and patience to help these pupils engage with the curriculum, develop social skills, and build confidence in their learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with additional needs, adapting strategies to meet individual requirements
  • Work closely with teachers and the SENCo to implement personalised learning plans
  • Support children in managing emotions, social interactions, and behavioural challenges
  • Assist in classroom activities, helping to create an inclusive and structured learning environment
  • Monitor and track progress, providing feedback to the wider school team
  • Follow the school’s safeguarding and behavioural policies to ensure a safe and positive setting for all pupils

Essential Experience/Attributes

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
  • Experience working with autism, ADHD, and challenging behaviour
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to the needs of the pupils
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
  • Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
