Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 15:30 (Term Time Only)
A primary school in Worthing is looking for a teaching assistant to provide general support across different classes, working with pupils on a 1:1 basis, in small groups, and within the whole class. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about education and wants to play a vital role in helping children access learning and develop key skills. The successful candidate will work under the direction of teachers to deliver high-quality support, helping pupils with both their academic progress and social development.
This role will involve working with children of varying abilities, some of whom may have additional learning needs. The school is looking for someone who can bring patience, enthusiasm, and adaptability, ensuring that every child receives the right support to thrive in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in classrooms by supporting pupils with their learning, helping them to stay focused and engaged
- Provide 1:1 and small group support where needed, tailoring help to pupils’ individual requirements
- Work across different year groups as directed, ensuring consistency in support and a strong working relationship with staff
- Encourage children’s independence and confidence by reinforcing learning and helping them with tasks
- Support with behaviour management, creating a positive and structured classroom environment
- Help teachers with classroom preparation, resource organisation, and general administrative tasks
- Follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behaviour policies, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all pupils
Essential Experience/Attributes
- Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs
- Experience working in a school, childcare, or other relevant setting
- A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
- A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team
- The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to the needs of the pupils
- Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies
- Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably
