SEN Teaching Assistant 
Location: Worthing
Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Hours: Full-time (Term Time Only), including midday meals supervision

A primary school in Worthing is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide focused 1:1 support for pupils with a variety of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. You will also supervise midday meals, ensuring pupils remain safe, engaged, and supported throughout the school day. This role involves working both on a one-to-one basis and within small groups, adapting to each child’s unique requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer 1:1 assistance to pupils who require extra help with learning tasks, behaviour management, or emotional regulation
  • Support small group interventions to address shared needs and encourage cooperative learning
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the particular needs of children with ASC, ADHD, and SEMH challenges, adapting strategies accordingly
  • Supervise pupils during midday meals, promoting a positive and inclusive environment
  • Collaborate with class teachers, the SENCo, and other staff to ensure continuity of support
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, communicating observations to inform ongoing strategies

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Proven experience supporting children with ASC, ADHD, and SEMH needs
  • Ability to show a clear understanding of how these needs impact learning and behaviour, and ways to address them
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • A DBS check on the update service or willingness to obtain one
  • Calm, patient, and flexible approach, capable of adapting to a variety of situations and pupil needs
