1:1 Teaching Assistant (Autism)

Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant
Hours: Mornings Only (Term Time)

A primary school in Bognor is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Key Stage 2 pupil with autism. This role requires someone with experience in working with children on the autism spectrum and a clear understanding of the unique challenges they may face within an educational setting. Although you will be primarily based in Key Stage 2, flexibility to assist in other year groups as needed is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide focused 1:1 support each morning to a pupil with autism, adapting tasks to suit their individual needs
  • Collaborate with class teachers and SEN staff to implement strategies that encourage engagement, progress, and well-being
  • Develop positive relationships with pupils, ensuring they feel safe, supported, and included in classroom activities
  • Offer flexibility by occasionally assisting in other year groups if required
  • Maintain consistent communication with staff and parents, sharing observations and updates on the pupil’s development

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Demonstrable experience working with children with autism in a school or similar setting
  • Understanding of the academic, social, and emotional needs of pupils with autism
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt communication styles as appropriate
  • A DBS check on the update service or willingness to obtain one
  • Calm, patient, and proactive approach, suited to a busy school environment
