Learning Support Assistant – Primary School

Hours: Part Time, Term Time Only

Are you passionate about supporting children to achieve their best in the classroom? A primary school is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join their team and help provide high-quality support to pupils. This role offers the opportunity to work in a nurturing and inclusive environment where you will contribute to the development of children with additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include supporting the class teacher, delivering phonics interventions, and working with children on a 1:1 basis or in small groups to provide targeted assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in delivering engaging and accessible lessons tailored to individual pupils’ needs.
  • Provide 1:1 support to pupils with Autism, ADHD, or SEMH needs, fostering their personal and academic development.
  • Support small group work to reinforce learning and provide targeted interventions, including phonics support.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher to adapt resources and strategies for different learning styles.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, ensuring their individual targets are being met.
  • Uphold the school’s safeguarding and behaviour policies, maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working in a primary or educational setting.
  • Experience supporting children with SEN, including Autism, ADHD, or SEMH needs.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting children.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Adaptability and resilience to respond to the needs of the pupils and manage challenging behaviour effectively.
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to following school policies.
  • Qualifications in education, special educational needs, or related fields are desirable but not essential.
