Job Description: SEND Teaching Assistant – Challenging Behaviour Support

Location: Crawley, West Sussex (easily accessible by public transport)
Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:45 PM (45-minute lunch break)
Start Date: ASAP

A wonderful SEND primary school in Crawley is seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join their team. This school provides exceptional support to children with a range of SEND needs, including some with complex and high-level requirements.

About the Role:
This position involves working in a challenging class, supporting older pupils with additional needs who present significant challenging behaviour. The role may be physically and emotionally demanding, requiring resilience, patience, and a proactive approach.

As a key member of the team, you will:

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage positive behaviour.
  • Implement effective strategies to manage and diffuse high-tension situations calmly and effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members to create a consistent and supportive environment.
  • Commit to the full-time nature of the role, demonstrating reliability and dedication.
  • Adapt to the needs of the pupils, using patience and understanding to support their individual development.

Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Previous experience managing challenging behaviour in a school, SEND, or similar setting.
  • Strong skills in de-escalation and behaviour management techniques.
  • The ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
  • A team-oriented mindset and excellent communication skills.
  • A commitment to the role, ensuring consistency and continuity for the pupils.
  • Availability to attend a trial day at the school prior to starting.
