Teaching Assistant (Mental Health)

Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Mental Health)
Hours: 08:30 to 15:30

 

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who will support children in developing healthy attachment relationships and managing anxiety in Burgess Hill. The successful candidate will have the ability to foster secure connections with students, promote emotional safety, and implement strategies for social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) support. You will work to build trusting relationships and understand the triggers that may lead to challenging situations for the pupils.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster secure connections with students to promote emotional safety.
  • Implement strategies for social, emotional, and mental health support.
  • Teach coping mechanisms to help children manage anxiety.
  • Monitor and support children during transitions between home and school.
  • Build trusting relationships to enhance student confidence.
  • Collaborate with teachers to address individual needs effectively.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs.
  • Background in psychology, counselling, or social work.
  • Specific expertise in attachment theory, anxiety management techniques, and SEMH interventions.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to the needs of the pupils.
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies.
