Hours: 08:30 to 15:30
 
We are seeking a Teaching Assistant dedicated to supporting children in developing healthy attachment relationships and managing anxiety in Worthing. The successful candidate will need to foster secure connections with students, promote emotional safety, and implement strategies for social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) support. This role requires teaching coping mechanisms for anxiety, assisting with transitions from home to school, and understanding when situations may become challenging for pupils.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support in developing healthy attachment relationships with students.
  • Implement strategies for managing anxiety and promoting emotional safety.
  • Teach coping mechanisms to help children navigate their emotional challenges.
  • Assist in managing transitions to ensure smooth entry and exit from school.
  • Monitor triggers and provide feedback to support staff for intervention.
  • Foster a trusting relationship with pupils to enhance their confidence.

Essential Experience/Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs.
  • Background in psychology, counselling, or social work, with expertise in attachment theory and anxiety management techniques.
  • A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
  • The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to the needs of the pupils.
  • Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies.
  • Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling, or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably.
