We are looking for a Teaching Assistant focused on working with children who present with challenging behaviour due to special educational needs or social, emotional, and mental health challenges in Worthing. The successful candidate will have the ability to create positive environment plans and support individualised behaviour plans. This role requires strong relationship-building skills, patience, and adaptability to quickly changing situations, as well as a keen understanding of the triggers and personality traits of pupils to inform their approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with students exhibiting challenging behaviours to implement positive behaviour strategies.
- Develop individualised behaviour plans in collaboration with educators and support staff.
- Build strong relationships with pupils to foster trust and encourage engagement.
- Monitor behaviour and provide feedback to teachers for continuous improvement.
- Adapt routines and schedules to meet the diverse needs of the students.
- Use creative methods to engage children in the curriculum and learning activities.
Essential Experience/Attributes:
- Previous experience working with children that have special educational needs.
- Knowledge and experience in behaviour management techniques.
- A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one.
- A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work within a team.
- The ability to be adaptable, remain calm in challenging situations, and respond to the needs of the pupils.
- Must be able to understand and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and behavioural policies.
- Qualifications relating to education, special educational needs, counselling, or psychology are not essential but will be looked upon favourably.
